I am loving Brene Brown right now. Her book, Daring Greatly, is inspired. It makes me think about how I am raising my children. What a gift and obligation it is to be able to raise children with an natural awarness of gratitude, vulnerability, respect, and worthiness. I love this manifesto on parenting by Brene and thought that I would share. Aloha.
Carrot Cashew Pate is my favorite raw dip! A local store on Maui sells it but it is too expensive to feed my addiction. So I began a quest to crack the code to the perfect Carrot Cashew Pate. Here is my version and I think that it is even better that the original!
RECIPE
2 Carrots
1 Cup Cashews
3 TBL Cilantro
2 Cloves Garlic
1 Heavy TBL (or more to taste) Vegenaise
1 TBL Braggs or Tamari
In a cuisenart pulse the cashews, garlic, and chopped carrots to a coarse consinstancy. Add Cilantro, Vegenaise, and Braggs. Pulse lightly. You want the dip to remain coarse and have some texture.

So many changes in the past year... I welcome 2013 and all of the possiblities that it holds.
We brought in the NEW YEAR with a new house! It is our 4th move since we came to the island. We started out on the dry side in Kihei, then we moved up the mountain to Kula, next was down to the beach in Paia, now we are in the green lush jungle of Haiku. We seem to be making our way through all of the climates that Maui has to offer!

My mom made this Sleeping Beauty dress for my oldest daughter... 7 years ago and now it has now been passed onto Amala. It is still in perfect spinning condition! She made it from the pattern Simplicity 9384 which is not in print anymore but I did see it on Ebay! There are other patterns but, this is definitely my favorite Sleeping Beauty pattern!
Kids Clothes Week Challenge... Day 1
I Recycled a pink adult T shirt into a cute ruffle T shirt. I have never created a T shirt before.. it was so much fun when it turned out. In fact I have a tutorial with a pattern coming soon!
Keeping with the theme of the change in seasons... Jaws broke yesterday! If you ever want to feel " camera lens envy" just watch the photographers shooting the waves come in on Maui. My Cannon 50D looked like a disposable camera compared to the amazing and HUGE camera lenses that show up to get the perfect shot! I will not even bore you with my sad photos.. here are some from the "heavy hitters"
Its true..There ARE seasons on Maui. While I will confess that I DO very much miss Colorado in the fall, Maui has come through for me! Last week the trade winds stopped and the Kona winds blew in. With that brought HOT weather, VOG conditions, and a general feeling of unease...Just as I felt like I was about to go crazy and that it would be better for me to catch an airplane back to Colorado so I could can some peaches and pick some apples, Maui brought in some amazing beauty...
The sky was purple and the water turquoise...
THEN The waves came back in full force... The kids and I played on the North Shore this week in amazement at the change in seasons...Maui style! Milo has been surfing at this beach for months but now we leave the Hookipa waves to the experienced surfers...
We sat and watched as 30 turtles marched up onto the beach
to rest for the night.Truly glorious!
The trade winds came back today and The VOG has cleared out, the temperature is again comfortable, the waves are back, and
all is right with the world!
Every September we celebrate Michaelmas. It is one of my favorite festivals in the Waldorf world.
It is the festival that recognizes the change from the external world to the internal one. We are meant to recognize aspects of ourselves or of our life that need refinement... A time to tame our inner dragons and then to rise victorious in the spring. Each Autumn brings new challenges to face and of course dragons to tame...This year feels different considering that we are celebrating the change of seasons island style. The changing of seasons is subtle on Maui and I find myself having to look even deeper to connect with the lessons of Michaelmas..
