Happy Ayyam-i-Ha!
We are celebrating the Baha'i holiday of Ayyam-i-Ha!
It is the time of the year for gift giving, celebrating, and performing acts of charity.
Baha'is celebrate the festival of Ayyam-i-Ha each year from sunset Feb 25th to sunset March 1st
Our Ayyamiha traditons have evolved over the years as the kids get a bit older.
We were able to focus more on charity this year. We have been talking allot around here about Haiti. I donated some aprons to the Craft Hope for Haiti Etsy shop and Nadira decided that she would make some doll clothes to sell and give the money to Haiti. They both also decided to give their allowence for the month to Haitian children.
This year I made an advent type banner with 4 pockets... 1 for for each day of Ayyam-i-Ha.
Every morning the kids wake up to a Ayyam-i-Ha suprise in the pocket!
Here is how i made our Ayyam-i-Ha Pocket Calendar:
Materials:
Felt in coordinating pieces.
Rainbow Strip of Fabric
Fabric Glue
Pinking Sheers (if you want a pinked edge)
Baha’i Star Template ~ You can download it HERE
1. CREATE THE BASE
Cut a piece of wool felt 37” x 17”
I used pinking sheers to cut as to keep a nice edge.
2. MAKE THE POCKETS
Cut 4 felt pieces 8” x 8”
Cut out the shapes. Earth, Bahai, Star, Heart and Rainbow
Using fabric glue, create the pocket designs. once the glue has dried...
Glue the pocket to the base fabric. Glue the sides and bottom of the pocket to the base, leaving the top edge open.
3. HANG IT UP AND FILL THE POCKETS!
Each day of Ayyam-i-Ha you can fill a pocket with a fun family activity, treats, or small gifts....
Happy Ayyam-i-Ha!
MAking cookies is another favorite tradition!
I found our 9 Pointed Star Cookies Cutters at Special Ideas.
They have a ton of great Baha'i items!
